13 Years More Honors
The annual More Honors show was held on Friday 16, 2010 in Skaptopara Sports Hall in Blagoevgrad. More than 1000 people, among which many AUBG professors and Alumni gathered, excited to find out this year’s winners. The show was quite different, revolving around the story of a future AUBG student from the Easter Islands, called Balkan Rapa-Nui (Marko Lubarda), who by accident got stuck to Arber Kuci, the pre-determined host of the show, through a magic rubber tube. When some of the presenters pointed out logical fallacies in the script, a five-second clip with a scoreboard reading “Plotholes!” was played on the screen.
The show lasted a little longer than two hours. With each following clip, the connection between the two hosts grew stronger, as Arber explained to the naïve Balkan the dynamics of student life. Balkan on the other hand, exemplified the brighter side of things, gradually changing his senior companion’s mind towards optimism.
Thirteen different nominees won in thirteen different categories, and another separate award was given for Life Time Achievement to Cosmina Tanasoiu who is an Associate Professor of Political Science and European studies to the American University in Bulgaria.
Scholarships amounting to 3000 leva were given to the three most creative video clips submitted to the More Honors Regalia. “Thirty one videos were uploaded. It was the toughest decision we have had to make so far”, Angel Anguelov – Mostuna, creator of More Honors said.
Closer to the end of the show, one of the most interesting and intriguing categories – the social experiment “The Thing” was presented, which intended to pursue reactions by the AUBG students. “Stop staring at your feet. You are missing out on things” was the punch line of the short clip, bringing out a strong message to the AUBG community.
The show was concluded by the two hosts with a dialogue, which explained the symbolic meaning of the tube – we are all stuck together at AUBG, but in the end, everything works out. After the end of the show, the current More Honors Academy rushed out on the stage all connected with small pieces of rubber tube.
